Why is the Genoa Motorsports
Park logo on our website?
It's simple really... the two principals, Kevin Rogers and Gary Pfeifer, are working to put together a first-class major motorsports facility in our back yard and, from what I've experienced during my 25 years in professional motorsports, they are one of a very small group of individuals that are going about it the right way. We at Bimmer Haus want very much to see it succeed and we are doing what we can to help get the word out and dispel rumors about their goals and the facility's function.
But what about the MCCA and CAMA... are you against that effort to build a track?
Absolutely not! If the High Plains Raceway project ever gets off the ground we'd love to see another race facility in the area and given the goals and objectives as we understand them the two facilities will be more complementary than competitors.
UPDATED November 2007: I want to dispell any rumors going around about Bimmer Haus or me personally being against the High Plains Raceway project -- they are simply not true. What IS true is that I've seen the plans for well over a hundred proposed motorsports facilities throughout the western US bite the dust in the last 25 years and I will personally believe that we'll have a new track in Colorado when race cars actually begin turning laps! Until then, all I see is what you see -- well intentioned PLANS. And no matter where it is or who builds and runs it... I will welcome it!
I currently have no financial stake in either project although I'm sure I'll contribute personally to both projects at some point in the future. (Bimmer Haus will not be contributing financially to either project as I do not believe it is in the best interest of our non-motorsports-oriented customers to do so.) I have been offering informational and other support for the Genoa MSP project simply because I believe the project principals are laying the foundation for the project in a way I am more comfortable with and, based on my own personal experience, is more likely to succeed. But I do not want anyone to misconstrue that support as opposition to the High Plains Raceway project or a belief that it will never come to pass.
I encourage anyone and everyone reading this to check out both projects on your own and offer your wholehearted support to either or both. Having a new track -- any track -- less than 2 hours from our Broomfield shop would be wonderful. Having two would be heaven. Having none would be a tragedy.
Isn't the Genoa Motorsports Park only going to be a private "country club" type of facility?
Again... absolutely not. Oh, there will be a "country club" component... you will be able to buy "memberships" for exclusive use of one or both of the race tracks (yes, there will be two 3+ mile race tracks) with the usual "country club" style amenities for members, but for most of the year one or both of the tracks and the rest of the facilities will be available for rental by clubs, companies, or individuals.
What about the proposed NASCAR track in Commerce City... won't this track conflict what that?
I've been hearing about a new NASCAR track since the mid-90's and it hasn't happened yet. The purchase of PPIR by ISC was supposed to be the first step in building a new track in the Denver area, but that has yet to materialize. If/when it does, the NASCAR facility will still be purpose-built by ISC to host NASCAR races. History has shown that major NASCAR tracks are rarely viable sports car/autocross facilities. I sincerely hope that's not the case in Denver.
What about PPIR? I heard it was going to reopen for club use?
I've heard that, too, and I hope it does. I have many fond memories of PPIR, winning my first SCCA National Club Race as well as several Divisional Solo II titles there... it would be a shame for it to go away. But even if/when it does reopen that's still a lot longer drive for racers from Denver, Boulder, and elsewhere in Northern Colorado -- having to drive through the Tech Center, Castle Rock, Monument, and Colorado Springs is a nightmare on a Friday or Sunday afternoon.
But isn't Genoa a really long way away?
Yes and no. It's 12 miles past the main Limon exit (Rip Griffin truck stop, McDonalds, Arby's) and only 8 miles past the second Limon exit (Flying J truck stop, airport, most of the motels). So, yes, it's a little over an hour from the mousetrap, but once you get past Peña Blvd. it's 75 mph all the way so for anyone from Denver, Boulder, or north it's a heck of a lot closer time-wise than World Arena, PPIR, Pueblo, or LaJunta.
UPDATED November 2007: On a recent trip to Topeka, Kansas I towed from our Broomfield shop past the turnoff to Genoa Motorsports Park... it took 1:40 in moderate traffic conditions (not rush hour, but some congestion along I-270) with our fully loaded tow rig. I would estimate travel time from Aurora to be as much as 30 minutes less, making it just over an hour... not bad at all.
Are they going to build an autocross pad?
Right now there are no concrete plans (pun intended) for an autocross pad, but talks are in the works to build one. From what I've been able to learn the chances of a dedicated autocross pad are better at the Genoa Motorsports Park than at any of the other tracks that are all still very early in the planning stages.
